Explore Tomohon - Manado

Tomohon consiststing 5 districts and 35 villages, surrounded by the Minahasa region geographically. This means, from the north, south, east and west, directly adjacent to the Minahasa. In general, the City Tomohon located on the main circulation path that connects between Manado as the capital city of North Sulawesi and other cities that are in the Minahasa region.

The development of civilization and the dynamics of development and social organization from year to year make Tomohon as one of the capital district in Minahasa.

There are few notes about the history of Tomohon that has been written. One of them is in the etnografis paper that was written by Priest N. Graafland who went to Tomohon on January 14th 1864 on the Queen Elisabeth ship. He wrote about his experience on a country named Tomohon which had been visited around 1850.

Mount Lokon

Located in the west with a height of 1580 meters. This volcanoe is active outside normal with a panoramic mountain which has a beautiful crater. The best time to begin the journey to Kakaskasen, Tomohon is at 8 a.m. so that we can arrive at the crater where the air is still cool. Follow the flow of cold lava stretching curvaceous to the crater lake which is located at 600 meters top down, with the depth of the lake 60 meters. Sometimes this mountain eject dust from the crater up to the settlements around. One important thing is to contact the Postal Security in Mount Lokon before begin the journey

Mount Mahawu

Located opposite to the direction of Mount Lokon, which has a slope land with sufficient altitude of 1311 meters. It has a stunning scenery, with colored crater lake that change from green to yellow sulfur.

Traditional Wooden House

The making of traditional wooden house which is very popular in Indonesia and also in another country outside Indonesia is on Woloan village. The house that using knock-down system is designed to be dismantled so that, pairs can be under to re-built in the desired place.
